Diane De Maria
Diane De Maria reinvented a new form of retrospective art in tribute to the legacy of her grandfather, Pierre De Maria, for her “Tag by Diane De Maria” Collection. The lines of his contemporary paintings Le Final and Le Grand Technosaure from the late 1960 inspired the collection. She incorporated his art into her luxury designer handbags and accessories.

Le Final | 1969

Le Grand Technosaure | 1968
To revive the geometrical compositions of her grandfather’s paintings, Diane was inspired by the legendary “doctor bag”. The simple construction of the “doctor bag” was the ideal shape that supported the mechanical and structured patterns of her grandfather’s paintings in which she redesigned as graphical prints stamped on luxurious leather and handcrafted into wearable art.

For Fall/Winter 2011, Diane designed an “Emotion” line for her “Tag by Diane De Maria” Collection. The series consist of six models in black leather stamped with the print inspired by her grandfather and a secret. Inside each bag there is a hidden message tagged in graffiti that says “Peace” (Purple), “Luck” (Gold), “Love” (Pink), “Wisdom” (Blue), “Hope” (Silver) and “Joy” (Orange). The six colors represent six different emotions suiting different moments in life and serves as a talisman or a good luck token.
The “Emotion” line is available in two sizes, extra small and large. I allowed my beloved black Chanel “Twisted Leather” bag to rest a bit and have been carrying the large “Luck” bag for 2 months. Strangely enough, luck has definitely been on my side. MOTU has had 3 new consulting jobs in the past two weeks. I’ve been lucky in work, but unfortunately not in love. Sigh. I think I definitely need to get the “Love” bag….
